AIMS

The Pastors' Forum has five aims

1. To promote Reformed theology.

The training is specifically designed for men in the pastoral ministry who are in general agreement with Reformed theology as broadly represented by the classical reformed confessions of faith. To prevent unhelpful diversion in discussion basic agreement as to the distinctives of Reformed theology is assumed.

2. To raise and maintain standards in the ministry.

Far greater provision now exists for men to receive an evangelical training for the ministry than was available to former generations. However, such training is but a foundation in learning on which the pastor is to continue to build. The standard of a man's ministry will decline unless he is regularly stimulated to study more widely than is required by sermon preparation alone.

3. To focus on the formal requirements of the pastoral ministry.

Personal piety is of paramount importance in the Christian Ministry. However it is the responsibility of the pastor to foster this within the fellowship of the Church. Consequently the Forum concentrates upon the more formal requirements of the pastoral ministry, with the aim of improving the pastor's ability to study and understand both Scripture and the contemporary context in which the church ministers.

4. To foster discussion and debate among ministers.

It is imperative that a pastor possesses the ability to think clearly, coherently and logically, and be able to present an argument with the same clarity, coherence and logic. This ability is enhanced through regular practice.

5. To keep abreast with developments and debates in theology.

Every pastor has the solemn responsibility to defend and promote the faith entrusted to the Church. It is necessary, therefore that pastors are aware of contemporary developments in theology.
